Trent and Kristen were both raised in rural communities in northeast Kansas. They started dating in high school and have been married for over ten years.
Trent worked construction for four years before he bought a gutter machine and started his own business. Kristen was a dance teacher for five years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She now homeschools their two daughters and helps run the office side of the business.
We’ve been business owners our entire adult lives, but we felt like we were a little stuck with our previous business setup. When we heard about The Brothers that just do Gutters from some other franchise owners, we were excited about the idea of growing our business in this direction.
Why a gutter franchise? Gutters are what we know! Trent taught himself to install gutters back in 2011. In 2012 the business went full time –he’s been climbing ladders ever since! Gutters have been our bread and butter for nine years, so it seemed like a no-brainer to franchise in that direction. We’re excited about his new role!
We’ve heard great things about The Brothers that just do Gutters from other franchise owners. However, we didn’t consider becoming franchise owners until Trent applied for a job with them in another location. Unfortunately, life circumstances held him back from taking that position, but getting to know Ken and Geodi through that process made us consider the idea of franchising. They were such great people! We wanted to be a part of what they had helped create –but here in Kansas City.
We are excited about the possibility of growth. We felt stuck with our current business for a while –too stressed to grow, but too busy not to grow. We see the systems that The Brothers that just do Gutters has in place, and we know they’ll help us transition to a business that we can manage very well.
Trent and I have been able to see how detail-oriented the training and systems are and we love that. We’ve also been able to meet and get to know a lot of the staff a bit. Everyone seems genuinely interested in helping.
We are interested in implementing the new systems of organization and delegating roles to some of our staff as we grow. We know that we can’t do it all and do it well, so we’re excited to put those systems in place and make sure those tasks get done with the focus and attention that they deserve.
Trent and I are committed to the homeowner, first and foremost. Our focus is on communication, service, and quality work that we stand behind. We provide seamless gutter installation, repairs, and cleanings with standard and oversized K-style gutters in aluminum and copper.
In one year, we envision SW KC Brothers Gutters with 3+ crews. We hope to have our initial debt with the business paid off so we can continue growing without limits. Our goal is $1.2 million in sales annually.
In 1999 Ken Parsons had just left the teaching industry and started his own gutter contractor company under the name Waterfall Seamless Gutters. In 2002 Ken’s younger brother, Ryan Parsons, accepted a job on the truck with Ken after the Graphic Design company he was working for crashed. In 2006 the Brothers briefly changed their name to Water-flow Gutter Solutions before finally becoming “The Brothers that just do Gutters” in 2009. The name we all know and love came from a radio ad the Brothers ran just a couple years prior to the change. Everyone who heard it liked it so much they thought it was the company name so Ken and Ryan stopped fighting it and adopted the name. With the name change came a few title changes as well. We decided we no longer wanted to be salesman, presidents or owners but rather Solutionists©, which embodied what we represent to our clients. Ken Parsons was re-entitled Senior Solutionist©, and Ryan Parsons became Chief Solutionist©.
Being in the gutter contractor business for over 15 years was an effort of adaptation and determination. We have been able to be successful for so long because we made our main focus the customer. The Brothers that just do Gutters offer a wide variety of installations, cleaning and repairs in a small niche industry of seamless rain gutters and leaf guards. We have been able to grow the reliability of our services and offer only the best products by focusing all our effort on gutter systems and guards.
Our mantra, “Reinventing Contractor Service™” is the phrase we live by in all areas of our business, every day. The story of The Brothers that just do Gutters began with hard work and a dream to be a community-loved contractor. We wanted to reinvent how clients experience contractor services and provide a level of customer service and reliability that was lacking in our industry.
Along the way, we had to learn to move at the speed of business and invent many new methods never before implemented in the contractor field. Meeting our goal of being a five-star contractor and reinventing contractor service meant focusing on every detail of the job. By creating a unique experience with the homeowner, investing in our employees, sourcing the best products, and creating training methods for publishing every review a homeowner made on our independent review services, we started to rise above the rest.
