On May 16th, 2013 brothers Ken and Ryan Parsons met with young adults between the ages of 13-20 at the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie to discuss Interview Tactics and Job Skills. Both Ken and Ryan have ample experience both being interviewed and conducting interviews. They know what potential employers are looking for, and what they’re not. So in keeping with their charitable roots, they decided to share this information with kids at The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. The presentation lasted over 2 hours and the kids really seemed interested. They asked questions, and shared their personal interview experiences to get feedback on what they could have done better. The brothers talked about the basics such as how to dress for an interview, but they also covered the sometimes-unobvious tips to interview success like making sure you have a professional voicemail. The brothers will be coming back as many of the children expressed interest in having the brothers’ review their resumes and perform mock interviews. It was a great experience overall. The brothers were able to hear the kids express their career goals and the things they are doing to achieve them. We want to sincerely thank The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie for having us.
Ryan and Ken are always looking to give back. “It has always been a part of our personal lives, so of course we wanted to incorporate it into our business,” said Ryan. Community outreach is just one of the many cores of this business. The Brothers that just do Gutterstruly enjoy giving back to the community. They don’t just offer their money they offer their time and services. “Giving back should be interactive; it should be hands on,” says Ken.
In the past Ken and Ryan have helped with Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity to literally rebuild their community. They speak to students about important topics not often covered in school curriculum. This past winter the brothers decided to give back in a bigger way. They created their first Internet marketing campaign geared at raising money for one local charity. Hundreds of people wrote in their suggestions and posted their personal stories on our Facebook wall. In a little less than 1 month our company raised over $500 and after a week of deliberation we chose The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie as our 2013 Lend A Like Charity! As the selected charity, the brothers donated the money raised during the campaign, and devote the entire year to helping The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie in any way. Their efforts have been so vast The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce recognized The Brothers that just do Gutters for their constant efforts in helping the community by awarding them the Think Local First Award!
The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie is a great local charity! We are beyond impressed with the work they do for these children. Established in 1847, The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie provides a range of services and programs giving hope and healing to abused and neglected children in the Hudson River Region. The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie served 397 children and their family members last year! The Home provides a full range of residential services including campus-based care, community-based group homes and boarding homes, and independent living apartments. It also provides regular foster care and intensive therapeutic foster homes. For over 166 years The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie has kept the same mission: to serve at-risk children and their families in the Hudson River Region.
This event is one of many the brothers, in conjunction with The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, will be presenting this year. “Our goal is to provide as much support to these kids as possible. If there is any information that helped us success in both our business and personal lives we want to share it,” said Ken.
