Some of the signs you may need underground drains are: you are experiencing flooded basements and garages, as well as, foundation damage and rotted wood. When your rain gutters drop rain within the footprint of your home, the water will follow the path of the back-fill into your foundation. When our solutionists come out to your home, they are trained to look for areas where your home may be experiencing problems with poor rain water drainage.
How do I know if I need to have my underground gutter drains cleaned?
If you are experiencing pooling in your yard or areas where your underground gutter drain is installed, you may have a clog causing the drain to leak. Another sign is rain water overflowing the gutters even after a cleaning has been performed. Sometimes, the clog can be spotted from the opening of the drain. If you are unsure if your underground gutter drain is clogged, call The Brothers that just do Gutters for a free estimate.
Why do I need underground drains?
During a rainstorm the gutters will catch all the rainwater from your roof and carry it down to the ground. If your home does not have extensions or underground drains, the water will begin ponding next to your home. Over time this water can penetrate your foundation, undermine stairs and patios and cause major damage. Many times, wet basements can be resolved by fixing a broken rain gutter, adding underground drains, or preventing rain water overflow in the gutters.
Gutters draining into high traffic areas such as walkways and driveways often cause slipping injuries. The solution is to take the downspouts underground and away from the high traffic areas. In some cases we even re-route the gutters and downspouts to a different area of the home and then bring them underground to avoid digging up driveways and walkways.
Underground drainage divert the water far away from your home, keeping your foundation safe and basement dry.
The Trifecta
The most ideal situation for protecting your home, is what we call the “trifecta.” This includes three key elements to ensure the most protection for your home. The first key to the “trifecta” is having new or well functioning, properly sized gutters. The second key is covering your gutter system with a leaf guard product like our mesh gutter system. The third key is running the water through underground drainage pipe far away from your home. All three of these elements complete the “trifecta.”
The reason we recommend a mesh gutter guard system, is because you do not want your underground drains to clog. A clog underground requires the costly expense of having a routing company come out and clear the drain. These services are expensive and not guaranteed.
